- June 17th 2001: European Championships (second day), for this season Almudena has presented an incredible ball exercise, in spite of the high degree of difficulty, she's capable of doing a perfect performance of it even under the pressure if biggest competitions but again, was a bit unlucky and had some doubts and non precise elements during her routine. Yet, the beauty and artistry of her ball exercise brought her the highest score in her competition: 26.300, 7th place at Ball Final.

Last but not least Almudena's incredible Clubs exercise came! Almu entered the carpet confidently and definitely showed with herroutine all the hard work she'd done during the previous months. Her performance with clubs was perfect! she got a lower score than she'd got for ball but the audience gave her an standing ovation and many claim Almudena's clubs routine as the best performance of the whole 2001 Europeans, again the medal was denied but it's undeniable that Almu was the true European Champion with Clubs.
26.100, 8th place at Clubs Final.

- June 15th 2001: European Championships. Almudena started the European competition on her birthday, she performed very well her vivid rope routinebut her score was "only" 25.650 consequently 11th place on Rope Final.

Unfortunately, Almudena made a big mistake with hoop, her finger got trapped on it so she did an uncontrolled throw that ended with the hoop out bounces.
Her score was 24.150 making her drop to the 15th place at the Hoop Final.

- June 15th 2001: Almudena's Birthday! and also begining of the 2001 European Championships in Geneva.

Sweet 21st Birthday Almu!
Best wishes to you, may all your dreams come true!

- June 9th 2001: Another tribute to Almudena!
Named after the great Spanish gymnast and in her honour the first "Beti Aurrera Almudena Cid Tournament" is held in Vitoria with the best gymnasts from all over Spain competing. Due to the fact that Almudena was having her pre-European test in Madrid, she wasn't able to attend to the competition but one of her mother's beautiful poems was read dedicated to Almudena and everyone wished her good luck for the European Championship.

- May 11th-12th-13th 2001: Corbeil Essones Tournament (France). This competition is one of the most prestigious Rhythmic Gymnastics meeting in the world. In the all-around competition, Almudena performed four practically perfect routines. The Spanish star really impressed both judges and audience, her new program is, without a shadow of a doubt, one of the very best in the international scene.
Almudena got her highest score for her incredible hoop exercise and managed to place 6th; she deserved more, but for the first time in so many years, judges seemed to be starting to appreciate Almudena's quality.

Corbeil Essones 2001, all-around results:

Unfortunately, Almudena was judged very harshly on Monday's Grand Prix Final. It seemed that judges got scared of Almudena's dominion and superiority so they relegated Almu to her traditional unfair 9th place.

- April 7th 2001: Almudena takes part in the Euskadi-Cataluña competition in Barcelona, after that she spent Easter holidays training in the C.A.R. (high training center) with her coach Iratxe Aurrekoetxea.

- April 1st 2001: Almudena has her weekly training with new coach Nina Vitrichenko. Almudena and her three coaches, Nina Vitrichenko, Dalia Kutkaite (currently working as Nina's translator) and Iratxe Aurrekoetxea, worked on the clubs and hoop routines; both are really fantastic exercises which show that the new code even makes Almudena's excellent quality more noticeable.
I must say that Almudena was so kind of inviting some friends and me to watch the training (thank you Almu!! ), and after it, we talked a bit with her and I gave Almudena the messages that you, her fans, left on this page. Almudena seemed happy of having them her hand so, I want to say thank you very much to you all for writing some words for her, I think that it's very encouraging for a person to read such beautiful words from her fans.

- March 31st 2001: Competition in Alicante. Despite the fact that she doesn't train the exercises from the 2000 competitive season anymore, Almudena competed with her Olympic ball and hoop routines in Alicante. She did magnificently and placed first in every event.

- March 16th 2001: Nina Vitrichenko finally arrives in Spain and starts working as new selector and coach for both individual and group gymnasts. Former individual coach Dalia Kutkaite is now her translator and former gymnast Neolia Fernández is the other group coach.

- February 25th 2001: Almudena takes part in a sportive event held in Vitoria that gathers several sports.
Almudena performed her Olympic routines at a tribute organized by "Club Ipurúa" as farewell for their senior gymnasts who are quitting rhythmic gymnastics.

- December 17th 2000: Olympic Gala Exhibition in Vitoria. This wonderful exhibition of Olympic gymnasts gathered great stars such as Almudena herself, Elena Vitrichenko, Ivan Ivankov, Gervasio Deferr... other female artistic gymnasts and gymnasts from the Euskadi's Selection.
Due to the fact Almudena is still recovering from the operation she only performed once, at the end of the gala, doing a fantastic exhibition routine without apparatus and in the middle with a ribbon. Almudena wore a black long skirt and a shawl and did a very good interpretation under flamenco music. The public loved her incredible expressiveness and showed it with a big applause.

- December 2000: As a result of the messy situation of the National Team and the lack of coaches for individual gymnasts, Almudena decides to go to Vitoria, her hometown, and spend there at least a month training with her former coaches Aurora Fernández del Valle and Iratxe Aurreoketxea.

- November 2000: During this month the problems concerning the situation of the Spanish Rhythmic Team and Federation caused Almudena some trouble. As the great professional she's, Almudena works hard everyday and tries to recover as soon as possible from her injury. However,  instead of appreciating her efforts, one day Almudena was denied the entry to the gym. Thanks to some worker of the Sports the situation was more or less solved. Almudena, still without having a personal coach, trained and did the physical conditioning coached by Jesús Carballo (father), coach of the female artistic gymnastics national team.

- November 11th 2000: A Tribute to Almudena Cid Tostado is held in Madrid. Several gymnasts performed a routine under Almudena's ribbon music devoted to her. There was also a group of disabled children who took part someway in the tribute, one of those children said "Almudena, we know that you're the best" Almudena wasn't able to restrain her tears and then she thanked everybody there for their support.

- November 7th 2000: Almudena undergoes surgery on her right knee because of her having the meniscus broken. The operation is successful indeed and Almudena comes back to the residence in hours' time.

- October 16th 2000: Almudena Cid visits this page. I want to say: thank you very much Almudena for visiting your page and for your lovely message. You are GREAT Almudena, Rhythmic Gymnastics need you!

- October 1st 2000: Olympic Final. Almudena Cid Tostado is the only Spanish gymnast in history competing in two olympic games and qualifying for the final, the other twice olympic rhythmic gymnast is member group Lorena  Guréndez, sadly the Spanish group didn't manage to reach the final.
Almudena performed very cleanly with rope in the first rotation, she received a mark of 9.750. Her second performance was very good too, with her super hoop routine Almudena earned a score of 9.725. Maybe Alumudena's performance with ball wasn't as precise as the previous day but anyway it remained magnificent and the audience loved it, she just had some doubts and the difficult final catch wasn't precise, she scored 9.691. Almudena finished her second olympic final with a magnificent ribbon routine, anyway judges seemed unwilling to let her score higher than 9.8, she received 9.741 and actually placed 9th, the same position she got in Atlanta.
It's incredible that such a great champion as Almudena was unfairly deprived of the olympic diploma  again. However, as Almudena says, the important thing is to enjoy rhythmic gymnastics and the audience's appreciation.
After such an unfair competition a good new had to arrive, Almudena Cid appeared on Television talking to the journalists and said that she was very happy with her competition and expressed her desire of competing in a third Olympiad.
Thank you for this wonderful new Almudena, I wish you the best for your third Olympic Games, go for the GOLD MEDAL!!!

- September 30th 2000: Olympic games. Qualifications: Almudena Cid completed her rotation with two magnificent performances. Almudena performed magnificently with ribbon, the public loved the routine and Almudena looked happy and proud of her performance after it, the mark was 9.716. Her last routine of the day was even better, the audience rewarded Alumudena's great work with a big ovation, she performed did each element so perfectly that after finishing the exercise she even kissed the ball. The mark of 9.733 was Alumudena's highest score and a total of 38.848 drove her to the 10th place qualifying for her Second Olympic Final.

- September 28th 2000: Olympic Games in Sydney, first qualifying rotations. Almudena Cid started her second olympic competition with hoop, she did a great performance and earned a big applause from the Australian audience. Sadly, the judges had a different opinion, it's unbelievable that Almudena was given an artistic mark of 4.800 for such an original and good exercise, despite her clean execution and magnificent technique the final score for hoop was 9.708.
With rope Almudena was very precise too, all the difficult elements were very well performed but she had a tiny problem just i a link, the score was slightly lower than the mark for hoop, that 9.691 supposed an 11th place for Almudena after two rotations.

- September 14th 2000: Last test of the National Team before the Olympic Games. The group and three of the individual gymnasts, Almudena Cid, Tania Campo and Esther Domínguez performed their routines. Almudena Cid started with hoop completed the exercise successfully, she also did very well with rope and ball but failed some elements with ribbon, due to this fact she continued working on her ribbon routine afterwards.

- September 9th 2000: Spanish National Team's exhibition in Leganés, Madrid. This exhibition was also a trubute dedicated to Laura García, great gymnast from Leganés Club, as farewell, since she's going to retire this year. The gymnasts from Leganés did also perform different choreographies as tribute to the National Team. Almudena performed her four routines and did very well, she just had a little doubt in the last catch with rope but was magnificent in her three first performances, with hoop, ball and new ribbon exercises.

- August 5th 2000: International Competition for groups in Málaga and Tribute to Emilia Boneva. The Spanish individual team performed in exhibition during this competition for groups. Almudena Cid's first performance was with rope, the routine has been modified and includes some new elements as well as a new ending position which is even better than the older one.
In her second appearance, Almudena performed her new ribbon routine choreographed in a wonderful music from the "Cirque du Soleil", both the choreography and elements are truly interesting and suit the music very well, the last catch is particularly original and innovate.
Maybe Almudena had some problems with ribbon but in her last exhibition routine, with ball, she showed again her greatness and did a demonstration of elegance and interpretation.

After the groups competition, there was tribute to former national coach Bulgarian Emilia Boneva, the Olympic Champions of the Spanish Group in Atlanta performed an exhibition routine dedicated to Emilia, after that Almudena sat down on the carpet with them and read a beautiful poem for her former coach, she wasn't able to finish reading the verses without crying of emotion and also the other gymnasts and the audience started to cry. Then all the gymnasts went to greet Emilia who later on talked about all the successes she had shared with the National Team, she finished her speech saying that all her gymnasts are so good because the work really hard. It was a lovely tribute!!

- July 9th 2000: Almudena makes an appearance at a television program. Almudena performed her beautiful ball routine on music with words and with several modifications to be able to do well in such an inappropriate and small place. The Rhythmic Star displayed elegance throughout her exhibition and earned a big applause from the audience.
